A little bit

about me

My background

It is difficult to convey an entire person's story in a few paragraphs, but it is worth a shot. Here is a brief history about me:

I am originally from Germany, but I moved to Indiana with my family back in 2005. As a child, I was always fascinated by how the world works and how I can form seemingly random objects together to create something new and beautiful.

I began with simple paper and tape crafts, before slowly elevating my skills to paper mache, then some wood knowledge, before finally settling on metal fabrication. I also dabbled a bit with plaster and mold making in high school, which then led to mold making for bronze casting in college.

I graduated from Herron School of Art and Design in May of 2024 with a BFA in sculpture. While in school, I tried to broaden my skill set as much as possible by taking at least one class out of every subject offered. This led me to discover my love for not only metal, but also woodworking and furniture making. While I enjoy the way metal is rigid and can hold any form it is put in, I will always have an appreciation for the beauty in wood. During the spring of 2022, I created a wooden coffee table that ended up going to a furniture competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

Throughout my art career, a staple of my art has always been the fact that my sculptures are made from lots of little elements. For example, on the wooden coffee table, I used almost 100 thin strips of wood that I bent and glued into the final leg shape. In most of my metal sculptures, I use lots of old tools, scrap metal, or anything else I can find around me. I enjoy using items like silverware or old tools because I feel as though it draws the viewer in closer when they suddenly begin to recognize regular household objects. Like in my dinosaur, I used multiple brake rotors for the feet, car suspension springs in the belly, car mirrors behind the eyes, and saw blades for his crown.
